A practical guide to the 70x100cm baby bedding set: check cot fit, match the 40x45cm pillowcase, and wash GOTS sateen cotton without shrinking or dulling the Blueberries print.
Quick answer
Measure your cot mattress before buying: the 70x100cm set fits a 70x100cm mattress, and the included 40x45cm pillowcase is a separate size to check. Wash the GOTS sateen cotton inside the matching tote bag on a gentle cycle and line dry, so the Blueberries print and the zip stay intact.
Why the 70x100cm size needs a tape measure, not a label
Cot bedding sizes vary by country and by cot model, so a set labelled 70x100cm is only right if your mattress measures the same. Measure the mattress length and width, not the cot frame, because rails and slats add centimetres that do not belong to the bedding. If your mattress is a different size, this set will gap or bunch rather than lie flat.
The pillowcase in this set is 40x45cm, which is a separate measurement from the duvet cover. Check your pillow against that figure before you buy, especially if you already own a pillow from another set.
What GOTS sateen cotton means for washing
The set is GOTS-certified organic cotton in a sateen weave. Sateen has a smooth, slightly lustrous surface that feels soft against a baby's skin, but that smoothness is also why harsh washing shows up quickly. Hot water, strong detergent and a hot tumble dry are the usual causes of dulled colour and a stiffer hand feel, so the washing steps below keep the temperature and agitation low.
The duvet cover and pillowcase both close with a YKK zipper. Zips survive washing best when closed, because an open zip can catch on the fabric of the same load and pull at the teeth.
How to fit and wash the Blueberries bedding set, step by step
- Measure the mattress and the pillow: Use a tape measure on the mattress itself and compare it with 70x100cm, then measure your pillow against 40x45cm. Write both figures down before you order. If either measurement is off, stop here: the set will not fit, however good the print looks.
- Zip both pieces closed before washing: Close the YKK zipper on the duvet cover and the pillowcase, then turn both inside out. This keeps the zip teeth from snagging the sateen weave in the drum. An open zip is the most common cause of pulled threads on sateen bedding.
- Wash on a gentle, cool cycle: Use a mild detergent without bleach or fabric softener and choose a gentle cycle at a low temperature. Put the set in the matching fabric tote bag if your machine has a delicate bag setting, or wash it with other soft baby items. Skip fabric softener: it coats sateen fibres and reduces the softness you bought the set for.
- Line dry or tumble on low: Shake the pieces out and line dry where possible. If you use a dryer, choose the lowest heat setting and remove the bedding while it is still slightly damp, then smooth it flat. High heat is the main risk to both the print and the fit, so keep the dryer low or skip it.
- Check the fit after the first wash: Put the set back on the mattress and pillow after washing and check that the corners sit flat and the pillowcase closes without strain. This is your baseline for future washes. If the cover pulls tight after washing, reduce the temperature next time rather than stretching it back.
